Questions homeowners ask

Why should I identify the meter configuration first?

We Energies lists single bidirectional, two-meter series and two-meter parallel arrangements for CGS-NM. Bill layouts and terms differ. Ask the utility or installer to confirm yours.

Does the series generation meter show total solar production?

The utility’s series example identifies its generation-meter quantity as excess sent to the grid. Record that measurement boundary before comparing it with an inverter production total.

What does the parallel generation meter measure?

In the utility’s parallel example, it measures total generation. The same general meter label can therefore describe a different quantity than in the series arrangement.

What happens when a bidirectional account has net generation?

The utility’s bill examples describe an Avoided Energy Cost credit for net generation over the billing month. Net consumption instead receives a per-kWh energy charge. Confirm the applicable price document separately.

Why can the inverter total differ from a bidirectional bill?

The utility’s net-metering explainer separates total production from electricity used immediately at home and electricity exported. Solar consumed on site does not pass through the grid meter.

Which flows determine net kWh in the bidirectional explainer?

It subtracts excess sent to the grid from electricity consumed from the grid. Preserve both flow labels, units and matching billing dates; total solar production is a different input.

Can unused kWh in this explanation offset a later month?

The explainer says net metering is reconciled monthly and kWh cannot carry forward to offset future-month usage. Keep energy accounting separate from any dollar credit shown on your statement.

Where can I find the supporting Wisconsin account documents?

The utility’s resources page links generation rate schedules, 2026 rates, interconnection forms, ownership-change forms and surplus-energy agreements. Request the versions applicable to your account and accepted arrangement.

How should I document a suspected mismatch?

Make a private comparison with the statement dates, accepted arrangement, meter configuration, exact field names, units and source of each value. Mark missing readings unknown. Ask the utility to explain the specific calculation and the installer to clarify any equipment measurement. A mismatch alone does not establish a fault or refund entitlement.

Can Solar Survey AI confirm my utility credit?

Our education helps separate observations from assumptions. A defined site survey may document accessible project inputs; confirm homeowner scope, availability, commercial relationships and limitations before booking. The utility determines account billing. Our homeowner provider connections and planned free remote diagnosis remain coming soon.

Your decision checklist

  • Confirm the Wisconsin utility and accepted generation arrangement.
  • Ask which of the three meter configurations applies.
  • Copy exact meter-field names with units.
  • Match bill and monitoring periods.
  • Separate grid flows from total solar production.
  • Retain the dated applicable rate document.
  • Distinguish monthly kWh from dollar credits.
  • Request a written explanation of unresolved calculations.

Illustration only: a hypothetical bidirectional record shows 420 kWh taken from the grid and 260 kWh sent to it, yielding 160 net kWh. A separate inverter record reports 700 kWh of production. These invented values explain different measurement boundaries; they do not calculate a We Energies bill, price, savings result or equipment fault.

Example: a buyer receives a screenshot labeled generation meter without the configuration record. Ask whether that quantity represents total production or excess exports and obtain the utility’s confirmation. Do not infer a system’s performance or transferable credit from an unlabeled screenshot.

This guide selects Wisconsin We Energies CGS-NM measurement questions. It does not apply Wisconsin terms to Michigan service, other utilities, legacy arrangements or every generation tariff. The reviewed utility examples explain meter configurations; their sample statements are not current-price quotations.
