OUC Home Solar Approval and Export Credits

Review OUC rooftop solar approval, the November 2026 export-credit change and battery rebate tradeoffs with practical homeowner questions and record checklists.

Questions homeowners ask

Does this guide apply to every Orlando home?

Use it when OUC is your electric provider. Confirm the parcel’s permitting jurisdiction separately. A mailing address does not establish the utility or building authority. Request both names before relying on a contractor’s approval schedule.

What is OUC’s published interconnection sequence?

OUC calls for early transformer review, jurisdictional permits, installation, final permit inspection, then the contractor’s online interconnection application. OUC reviews the application and, if approved, reconfigures the meter; replacement is occasionally needed.

Which records should I request from the installer?

OUC lists the passed inspection or completion certificate, itemized signed purchase invoice and electrical one-line diagram. Tier 2 and 3 applications also require insurance and payment evidence. Confirm engineering requirements with OUC.

Is the passed local inspection enough to start operating?

Track local completion and utility authorization separately. Ask the installer and OUC for the actual operating status and remaining conditions. Do not energize equipment yourself or infer authorization from an installed array, a screenshot or a permit inspection record.

What export-credit change is scheduled for November 2026?

OUC’s current page sets November 1, 2026 as the rate-change date. The temporary full-retail grace period ends October 31. Systems connected or with approved applications by June 30, 2025 retain full retail through June 30, 2045. Later systems receive Community Solar Energy credits through June 30, 2030, then Retail Levelized Fuel credits. Confirm your category.

What happens to the solar bank?

OUC says it will retire the solar bank November 1, apply a final true-up, then credit exports monetarily in the billing period with remaining credits rolling forward.

Should I assume a seller’s export terms transfer to me?

No. OUC’s current rate table includes a change in account holder. Confirm buyer treatment with OUC.

What does the optional battery rebate offer?

OUC lists $150 per kWh of nameplate storage, capped at $2,000 and paid as an approved bill credit. Eligible storage must be paired with OUC-approved solar; the PV system must be no larger than 20 kW. This is eligibility screening, not an award promise.

What rate tradeoff comes with accepting the battery rebate?

OUC requires recipients to waive eligibility for the TruNet Full Retail export rate. Its battery page specifies Community Solar Energy credits through June 30, 2030 and Retail Fuel credits afterward. Compare the bill effect separately from the one-time credit before accepting.

Which battery application details deserve early attention?

OUC requires invoices submitted within six months of purchase, a defect warranty of at least ten years, a signed and sealed engineer’s one-line, an installed-battery photo and the electrical installer’s license number. Its equipment requirements include a disconnect, automatic transfer switch and future utility communication/dispatch support. Confirm the complete current checklist.

How do I compare proposals without assuming savings?

Request separate figures for generation, household use, exports and grid purchases. Name the export category and effective dates in the model. Keep battery cost, rebate assumptions and financing visible. Compare scenarios using the same usage record; an attractive credit alone does not establish the better overall choice.

How can Solar Survey AI support this decision?

Our education and methodology help identify missing site observations and approval records. Confirm available survey or inspection scope, qualifications, access, price and conflicts before booking. We do not approve OUC applications or guarantee rebates. Homeowner monitoring connections and planned free remote diagnosis remain coming soon.

Your decision checklist

  • Confirm OUC service and the parcel’s permitting authority.
  • Keep local inspection and utility application records separately.
  • Get written operating-status confirmation before activation.
  • Ask OUC which export category and effective dates apply.
  • Compare battery cost, rebate eligibility and any rate waiver together.
  • Retain equipment, warranty, invoice and handover records privately.

Home purchaseBuyer account treatment and seller recordsWhich assumptions need a fresh utility confirmation?
Battery offerCost, eligibility, waiver and warranty documentsWhat is the comparison with and without the offer?
Missing site evidenceDated survey scope, observations and exclusionsWhich qualified professional can resolve the gap?

Hypothetical example: a system generates 600 kWh, the home uses 400 kWh directly and 200 kWh are exported. The exported amount is 200 kWh, not the full generation total. This simplified arithmetic illustrates measurements; it is not an OUC bill calculation, forecast or savings promise.

Example: an existing owner compares a battery quote with a one-time incentive. Ask for two documented scenarios using the same usage and production assumptions, with the export-rate treatment and recurring costs shown explicitly. Have the provider explain the conditions rather than assuming the incentive improves the overall result.

If a downloaded guide and the current utility page disagree, save both dates and ask OUC to resolve the applicable terms in writing. Keep unconfirmed eligibility or account treatment labeled unresolved. Do not replace a missing answer with the most favorable assumption.

Continue with bill and export measurements, battery operating limits, solar-home transaction records and assessment independence and scope. Read Solar Survey AI’s evidence methodology and survey services; confirm availability for your property.
