AI-Generated Solar Engineering Plan Sets

Prepare a residential design package from the measured roof and engineering intake. Every plan set is AI-generated, unreviewed and unstamped, and requires licensed-engineer review before permit submission.

Residential design & engineering

Who it was designed for

Residential installer design and engineering teams receiving delivered site surveys, and SSAI administrators preparing the handoff.

Available in the SSAI web platform for qualifying residential jobs. Authorized clients see only the latest available plan-set version on their own company’s delivered job. Administrators manage generation and version history. Technicians and anonymous survey-share visitors do not have access.

What it does

After QA approval, the platform queues a plan set for the job. The generator uses the measured roof model and completed engineering intake to prepare a residential PV design in an 11 × 17 PDF. Missing required inputs can block generation; approval alone does not guarantee a finished document.

The package brings together a roof and array layout, electrical diagrams and calculations, structural screening, labels, equipment information and supporting site evidence. It also lists design assumptions and questions that need resolution with the engineer, utility or permit authority.

The client card is labeled “Engineering plan set (AI-generated).” Before opening each version, the user reads the AI-generated notice, selects “I understand” and continues. The acknowledgment belongs to that user, job and version; a regenerated version requires a new acknowledgment.

Every sheet carries the AI-engineered warning and unreviewed, unstamped engineer boxes. This is a starting package for professional review. Acknowledging the notice does not approve the engineering or turn the PDF into a stamped plan set.

Release review

Reviewed October 11, 2026. This guide covers the residential plan-set workflow currently available in the web platform; access and generation follow the requirements below.

How it fits your workflow

STEP 1

Prepare the survey inputs

SSAI reviews the survey and completes the engineering intake. A qualifying residential job needs measured roof geometry, location and the required electrical service and panel information.

STEP 2

Open the latest version

In your company portal, open the delivered survey and its AI-generated engineering plan-set card. Select “Review and open,” read the notice, check “I understand” and continue to the download.

STEP 3

Resolve and review

Review the “Verify with your AHJ / engineer” list and the referenced sheets. Confirm the equipment, resolve assumptions and send the package to the licensed professionals handling the project before permit submission.

Illustrated workflow. These cards explain the process; they are not screenshots of a customer project.

The practical value

A versioned package keeps the design review connected to the same survey inputs and gives the receiving team a visible list of unresolved items. It supports a clearer handoff to the engineer without treating generation, acknowledgment or QA approval as engineering approval.

A concrete use case

An installer receives a qualifying delivered residential survey. The latest plan set includes a roof layout and an open item asking for confirmation of the local code edition. The installer acknowledges the AI notice, downloads that version and asks the engineer and permit authority to resolve the item. If SSAI regenerates the package after a correction, the installer reviews and acknowledges the new version before downloading it. This is an illustrative workflow, not a customer outcome or a permit-approval promise.

Requirements and limits

SSAI’s plan-set workflow requires review and approval by licensed structural and electrical engineers before submission to the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ), the permit office. This describes the product’s review requirement; project-specific licensing, stamping and submission rules must be confirmed with the professionals and authority involved. Solar Survey AI does not submit the package to permit offices.

The current generator is for residential rooftop PV with supported 120/240 V single-phase service. Commercial, utility-scale, three-phase, string-inverter and ground-mount designs are outside this release’s scope.

No 3D model or measured roof, incomplete intake, missing service or panel ratings, missing location, unsupported service or a roof with no usable layout can stop generation. Administrators see blocked or failed status and can address the input problem before requesting a new run.

Equipment in a generated set is a design default, not a confirmed purchase or installer selection. Confirm the selected models and manufacturer documents. Schematic equipment placement, assumptions, code editions, fire access, wind and snow loads, utility rules and jurisdiction-specific requirements need project review. Unpublished local AHJ rulebooks are not a claim of nationwide permit compliance.

Administrators can generate for older jobs and regenerate after corrections. Successful regeneration adds a version and retains administrative history. Clients get the latest version only; plan sets are excluded from public survey-share links and the showcase demo.

Generation does not promise a delivery time, engineering certification, utility acceptance or permit approval. The AI plan-set PDF is distinct from the survey report and DXF export, and from a pre-survey sales proposal.
