Solar monitoring app
offline?

An offline app usually means the system lost its internet link, not that the panels stopped. Restore reporting first, then check production.

The short answer

Most monitoring systems send data over your home internet through a gateway or the inverter’s own Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection. Enphase lists a new router or Wi-Fi password, a gateway that lost power, and a weak connection as common causes of a gateway not reporting. SolarEdge’s owner guidance also starts with the router: is it on, and did its password change? Tesla separates an app that is not updating from a system that is not producing.

Safe checks you can do now

  1. Check when the last update was

A gap that started on a specific day often matches a router change, power cut or internet outage.

  2. Restart your router

Unplug it, wait about 30 seconds and plug it back in. Enphase and SolarEdge both list router checks for reporting problems. Sources: Enphase Support: Is your Envoy S or IQ Gateway not reporting?, SolarEdge: mySolarEdge app does not display production data.

  3. Update the Wi-Fi password on the device

If you changed your router or Wi-Fi password, the gateway or inverter still has the old one. Use your brand’s in-app reconnect steps, for example Enphase Support: Reconnect your Envoy S or IQ Gateway to Wi-Fi using the Enphase App.

  4. Check the communication light

SolarEdge says a blue LED on the inverter means it is communicating. Enphase says the gateway’s top LED is solid green when connected. Look from where you stand; do not open covers.

  5. Check the app is not just out of date

Update or reinstall the monitoring app on your phone and sign in again.

  6. If data was never visible, call the installer

SolarEdge says that if production data was never visible, the installer should check the inverter’s communication. Source: SolarEdge: mySolarEdge app does not display production data.

Safety first

Only do the checks on this page that need no tools: read the app, look at the inverter or gateway lights, reset a tripped breaker that is labelled for the solar system or gateway, and look at the array from the ground. Never open an electrical panel, inverter, combiner or junction box, never touch wiring or connectors, and never climb onto the roof. Solar equipment can stay energized while the sun is up even when the grid is off. If a breaker trips again, you smell burning, or you see scorch marks, water in equipment or damaged wiring, stop and call your installer or a licensed electrician.

Brand-specific guides

SMA’s Sunny Home Manager manual also lists router settings and device connections to check when data stops updating (SMA manual (Sunny Home Manager 2.0): Problems with data update).

When to call your installer or an electrician

  • Data was never visible after installation.
  • The router is fine but the device still will not reconnect.
  • Lights on the inverter or gateway show an error.
  • Reporting is back but production looks low.

Free for homeowners

Get a free remote review of your system

Tell us which monitoring app your system uses (Enphase, SolarEdge, Tesla, SMA, Fronius, Generac or another brand). We send you the steps to add our team as a viewer or installer from inside the provider’s own app. You never share your password with us. Once access is granted, our team connects your system and runs a free remote review of your production and alerts, then tells you what we found and the next step.

  1. 01Tell us your monitoring brand
  2. 02Grant viewer or installer access in your app
  3. 03Our team reviews it and reports back

Remote data can show when and where production changed, but it cannot always find the physical cause. Some issues need an on-site visit or your installer. We never ask for your monitoring password.

Questions homeowners ask

Does an offline monitoring app mean my solar is not working?

Not necessarily. Losing the internet link stops data from reaching the app, while the panels may keep producing. Restore reporting, then compare production with the same month last year.

Why did my solar monitoring stop after I changed my router?

The gateway or inverter is still trying to join the old network. Enphase and SolarEdge both list router and Wi-Fi password changes as common causes and provide reconnect steps.

Will I lose production data while it is offline?

That depends on the equipment and how long it was offline. Ask your manufacturer or installer; do not assume missing days mean zero production.
