Pedernales PEC Solar: Credit Expiry and Home Transfers

Understand Pedernales PEC solar credit expiry, time-of-use commitments and home transfers. Keep member signatures, battery sizing and utility approvals clear.

Questions homeowners ask

Does received energy mean every kWh my panels produce?

PEC measures grid energy supplied to the home separately from surplus sent to its system. Solar used before the meter is a different quantity. Compare the same periods and measurement definitions; an inverter-production total is not automatically the bill’s received-energy total.

Do unused solar credits last indefinitely?

PEC applies the regular Sustainable Power Credit toward the Base Power Charge; unused credits expire at calendar-year end. The interconnect time-of-use option also has year-end expiry, against its TOU Base Power Charge. Keep the applicable rate and balance history; do not promise a permanent credit bank or a zero total bill.

Can I test the interconnect TOU rate for a month?

PEC describes a twelve-month enrollment commitment. After opting out, members must wait a full year to reenroll. Its export credit varies by season and time period. Compare actual interval use and export assumptions before requesting enrollment; a monthly production total alone cannot establish the best option.

What changes when I move into a home with existing solar?

PEC requires an Existing DG application and signed interconnection agreement for the new member. It says the system must remain disconnected until that process is complete and PEC provides PTO. Establish service and ask PEC and a qualified contractor to coordinate safely; do not assume the seller’s documents authorize your operation.

Can an installer sign the interconnection documents for me?

PEC says members must sign the agreement and acknowledgement through DocuSign in PowerClerk; installers cannot sign on their behalf. Uploaded forms at submission are not approved. Verify the official request and retain completed records without sharing credentials with a contractor.

Does a battery inverter count in the proposed system size?

PEC uses aggregate inverter AC output, including battery-associated inverters, for its DG output and classification. Adding a resource or capacity requires a new application and PTO. Ask the designer and PEC to resolve the complete one-line diagram and nameplate basis; an export-control setting does not replace that review.

Is a backup-only system necessarily the same application?

PEC distinguishes standby generation that does not operate in parallel with its distribution system. That route has its own requirements. Have the utility and qualified designer confirm the actual configuration instead of treating a battery sales label as approval.

Your decision checklist

  • Confirm this is a Pedernales Electric Cooperative electric account.
  • Record the accepted DG rate and year-end credit treatment.
  • Compare actual interval use and export assumptions for TOU.
  • Resolve a home transfer through the Existing DG process.
  • Retain member-signed agreement, acknowledgement and actual PTO.
  • Include battery inverters and proposed additions in design review.
  • Assign each unresolved billing or approval question to a responsible party.

Keep credit expiry and home-transfer approvals traceable

Original private credit and approval organizer; not an application.
RecordEvidence and next question
Account and rateActual utility, accepted rate, effective date and applicable terms; distinguish PEC from similarly named providers.
Meter quantitiesBilling dates, grid supply and surplus, interval data where available, and separately labeled inverter production.
Credit expiryBalance history, charges eligible for credit, calendar-year boundary and written explanation of an unresolved item.
TOU comparisonCurrent and proposed rate, seasonal intervals, usage assumptions, enrollment date, commitment and reentry terms.
Home transferNew service record, Existing DG application, member agreement and actual utility authorization.
System scopeExisting and proposed inverter AC capacities, battery design, current one-line diagram and any expansion review.
Evidence ownerInstaller or utility contact, signature and inspection status, unresolved question, next action and response date.

Fictional year-end example: a homeowner treats an autumn credit balance as money that can offset every charge indefinitely. Save the actual rate, separate the eligible power charge from other bill items and ask the utility to explain the calendar-year balance treatment. Keep that answer with the forecast. The example supplies no price or savings calculation.

Fictional home-transfer example: a buyer receives the seller’s solar monitoring login and assumes the system paperwork is complete. Build separate checklist entries for service establishment, the buyer’s utility application and agreement, operating authorization and equipment-account access. Have qualified parties coordinate any required disconnection. Portal access and an old approval are evidence to review, not interchangeable milestones.

Reviewed October 7, 2026 against PEC’s DG rates, interconnection process and DG FAQ. The rates page describes the residential and small-power route below 50 kW AC; larger systems have separate treatment. Its web-account TOU calculator uses prior usage, but a forecast still needs clearly labeled export and future-load assumptions. This guide does not enroll an account or select a rate.

Keep the actual utility’s written decision, accepted tariff and dated design together. This resource concerns Pedernales Electric Cooperative accounts, not every Texas solar contract. No current price, total fee, tax entitlement, approval date, savings or outage duration is promised. The organizer and fictional examples are editorial preparation aids; actual PEC requirements are attributed beside each answer. Get appropriate professional advice about your own agreement and home sale.

Use records and safely visible information. Do not open electrical equipment, change settings, operate disconnects or test wiring to resolve an approval question. Qualified providers should perform technical work. Keep account identifiers, signatures, credentials, serial numbers, private contracts and household usage out of public examples.

Continue with bill and measurement basics, solar-home purchase records and permits and utility approval. Solar Survey AI’s evidence methodology separates observed facts, assumptions and confirmed decisions. For a site concern, confirm available inspection scope, location availability, qualifications, access, fees and commercial conflicts. Third-party does not automatically mean independent. A survey cannot authorize utility operation, change a tariff or complete a buyer’s contract transfer. Homeowner monitoring connections and planned free remote diagnosis remain coming soon.
