Commercial Technician Certification

A commercial site adds service equipment, roof access, storage locations and building constraints that a residential checklist does not cover.

Technician training

Who it was designed for

Technicians assigned to commercial rooftop, ground-mounted or carport surveys, and administrators planning those assignments.

Technicians access their own commercial track. Administrators manage status, due dates and waivers. Clients cannot read internal training records.

What it does

The commercial track combines nine reading modules, a commercial sandbox survey and a final exam. It covers project data, access, structure, electrical equipment, storage, civil conditions, utility context and drone capture.

The commercial requirement is separate from the general Technician Academy. Administrators can see commercial qualification status and flagged commercial assignments.

The track helps the field team identify what must be captured and what needs follow-up, so designers receive site-specific evidence rather than assumptions.

How it fits your workflow

STEP 1

Study the site types

Read the commercial modules and complete their lesson self-checks.

STEP 2

Practice commercial capture

Submit the commercial demo survey with its checklist coaching tips.

STEP 3

Complete the exam

Take the unlocked commercial exam and review any missed questions before retaking it.

Illustrated workflow. These cards explain the process; they are not screenshots of a customer project.

The practical value

The track helps the field team identify what must be captured and what needs follow-up, so designers receive site-specific evidence rather than assumptions.

A concrete use case

A technician preparing for a commercial roof records access constraints, actual switchgear information and proposed storage locations in the practice workflow before starting an assigned site.

Requirements and limits

The current exam draws 30 questions and requires every answer to be correct. A failed attempt has a one-hour retake wait.

Qualification gates starting a new commercial job. Grace periods and administrator waivers may apply; in-progress work can still be finished. An administrator can explicitly acknowledge an uncertified assignment.

This is an internal field-readiness qualification. It does not approve engineering, replace the adopted code or confer an electrical, engineering, survey or FAA license.
